Juno Women’s Aid is proud to announce the return of its annual Steps to Survive fundraising challenge, running throughout National Walking Month from 1–31 May 2025. This powerful campaign invites individuals, businesses and community groups to walk 39 miles over the course of the month — symbolising the average distance a woman will travel to reach safety from domestic abuse.
Every mile walked represents courage. Every step is a testament to the resilience of survivors. And every donation helps fuel the critical services that Juno provides to women and children escaping domestic abuse.
“Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, but survival is never walked alone,” said Tasarla Larner, Fundraising & Communications Manager for Juno Women’s Aid. “Steps to Survive is more than a fitness challenge — it’s a call to action. By walking 39 miles, supporters are standing in solidarity with survivors, raising vital funds, and helping us create real pathways to freedom.”
A National Campaign with a Local Heart
Launched to coincide with National Walking Month, Steps to Survive is both symbolic and practical. The 39-mile distance reflects the average journey to refuge for survivors fleeing dangerous environments. The funds raised will directly support Juno’s frontline services, including crisis accommodation, emotional and psychological support, legal advocacy, and prevention programs across Nottingham and beyond.
Community and Corporate Champions Step Forward
This year’s campaign is proudly supported by leading local businesses including Cartwright, Tank PR and Equifax, who are championing the cause through staff participation, awareness-building, and corporate donations.
Maisie Bamford, PR Account Director at Tank, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Juno Women’s Aid and the Steps to Survive challenge. It’s a privilege to stand alongside a local charity doing such vital work to protect and empower women and children in our community. Every mile walked represents hope – and we’re honoured to be part of that journey.”
Amani Darr, Strategy and Customer Experience Lead at Equifax UK said ”With domestic abuse impacting millions across the UK and leaving many financially vulnerable, we’re exceptionally proud of our partnership with Juno Women’s Aid – supporting their vital work. Alongside this, our annual ‘Equifax Step Challenge’ is underway, encouraging our team to raise funds for the charity. We’re committed to playing our part in making a real difference in helping victim-survivors rebuild their financial independence.”
Liz Cartwright, managing director of Cartwright, said: “Juno Women’s Aid is a vital asset to our region, with the work it undertakes offering an incredible lifeline to vulnerable women, children and young people. As longstanding partners of the organisation, we’re incredibly proud as a business to actively participate in its initiatives, with the ‘Steps to Survive’ campaign providing a platform for our teams to raise funds and showcase our support in an accessible and practical way. We look forward to getting our steps in throughout May and encourage other like-minded businesses to step up throughout National Walking Month.”
