Stronger Families is a 10-12-week therapeutic group recovery programme for children, young people and their mothers who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. We run separate groups for mothers and their children.
Through fun games and activities, arts, crafts and discussions, the programme focusses on building children’s self-esteem, helping them to deal with their emotions and helping them to understand that what happened is not their fault.
We cover topics such as:
- Dealing with conflict/problem solving
- Understanding feelings
- Safety planning
- Healthy relationships
The groups are run through term time. Mum's groups are held on a different day from the children’s groups.
The mum's group provides a safe and supportive environment for women to share their experiences and to discuss any issues. Stronger families is a recovery programme and helps mums to understand what has happened to them and the impact the abuse has had on them and their children. This gives mum a better understanding about their child’s behaviour and feelings and gives them more confidence to support their child and strengthen their relationship.
